• Question: How do the atoms burn when you shoot them with the lazer?

      The atoms absorb the light particles (photons) from the laser and become excited, eventually losing their anti-electron. When this happens, the atom hits the walls of the chamber they are stored in and annihilates, releasing energy. This energy release (or burning) is detected by our detectors.
